It’s Brunch O’Clock Just South of Indy

Brunch is the perfect meal of the day. It’s early enough for another cup of coffee, and the food options are endless: sweet, savory, or better yet, sweet and savory. There are no rules to brunch, except to allot plenty of leisure time to relax with your friends and revel in the delicious experience.

April is National Brunch Month, and we recommend visiting locally owned restaurants in Festival Country such as Flap Jacks Pancake House in Bargersville. As the name suggests, this is where to go for soft, spongy buttermilk pancakes and waffles with gourmet flavors and toppings, like assorted fresh fruit and Nutella.

When I visited this month with my friend, we asked our waitress for her favorite brunch items. She recommended the chocolate chip pancakes and something called the healthy waffle.

I ordered the healthy waffle: a crispy Belgian waffle topped with creamy vanilla Greek yogurt, granola, and fresh strawberries and blueberries. And for a savory side, I ordered scrambled eggs. It was the perfect ratio of light indulgence, not too sweet or heavy. The portion was so large that I did need to bring half of it home with me!

But the menu doesn’t stop with pancakes. If your brunch order isn’t complete without eggs, try an omelet or skillet with all the fixings, or eggs paired with classic sides like grits, hashbrowns or toast. Try one of four eggs Benedict options, all topped with rich Hollandaise sauce, or a breakfast sandwich.

Prefer gluten-free or vegetarian entrees? Flap Jacks offers gluten-free pancakes and meat-free mains and sides. The options are nearly endless.

We recommend these local restaurants for brunch, too.

Antilogy is unique for its sharables, including biscuit, pancake, fruit and hummus boards that are perfect for small groups to enjoy together.

Cellar’s Market serves brunch daily with seasonal additions. Try soups, salads or traditional brunch entrees like biscuits and gravy or a ham and gruyere croissant. They also have a rotating selection of pastries and specialty coffees.

If coffee is at the center of your brunch plans, visit Main & Madison Market Café for handcrafted coffees, pastries and savory sandwiches.

Maple Breakfast & Brunch offers classic breakfast options and specialty items, like avocado toast and a bagel and lox board.

Brunch calories don’t count, so treat yourself to another short stack or side of bacon at your next brunch outing this month. It is a national holiday, you know.
